Anna Louise Mason graduated B.Sc. in Single Honours Mathematics 2000.

She is now a teacher in Glasgow Academy.

Maths has always come naturally to me but my enthusiasm for it as a subject really took off during my sixth year at school when I sat the SYS maths course (equivalent to today's Advanced Higher). I was the sole pupil and, as such, was taught in a cupboard by a fantastic and dedicated teacher. Inspired by her as a teacher, I decided to study maths at Glasgow University, along with psychology and philosophy. By the end of my first year I was hooked on maths and, feeling very at home in the maths department, decided to pursue it to honours.

Since I graduated in 2000, I have gained my Post-Graduate Certificate in Education and am now at the start of my second year as a secondary school maths teacher. I love my job! My aim as a teacher is to pass on my enthusiasm of maths to those I teach and to make it a subject that is accessible to everyone, regardless of ability. It's a very sociable profession and I enjoy the constant contact with my colleagues, the pupils and their parents. I teach a wide range of courses from first year to Advanced Higher in sixth year and I am grateful for the opportunity to maintain and use my knowledge of university standard maths. But the most satisfying aspect of teaching has to be the bond that has developed between myself and the pupils whom I teach. They're great fun to be around and they make me laugh every day.
