Christopher Robertson
Airline pilot

I graduated with a single honours degree in Mathematics. I am now an airline pilot flying the Boeing 757.

I started flying during my time at Glasgow University. I joined the University Air Squadron (an organisation sponsored by the RAF) during my second year and would spend many free afternoons flying in small aircraft over Loch Lomond.

After graduating I was sponsored by Caledonian Airways (now JMC Airlines) to start commercial pilot training. This involved 13 months intensive flying training at Cranfield where I gained my flying licence. This was followed by several further months of simulator training at Heathrow where I learned to fly larger passenger jets.

I believe having my degree in Mathematics from Glasgow University helped my application for airline sponsorship which is highly competitive.
