Ring and Module Theory
Level 4

Autumn 2007

Course description
This one-semester course provides an introduction to PID's and module theory, with a view to the structure theorem for finitely generated modules over a PID. We then use the structure theorem to establish the Jordan normal form of a square matrix, and we conclude with a look at Nakayama's lemma.

The class meets in room 416 of the Mathematics Building from 12noon-1pm on Thursdays and Fridays, as well as every second Wednesday. Examples classes take place on Mondays 2-3pm (room 214-A) and Fridays 1-2pm (room 214).
