Level 4H - Ring and Module Theory

Autumn 2008

Course description: This one-semester course provides an introduction to PID's and module theory, with a view to the structure theorem for finitely generated modules over a PID. We then use the structure theorem to establish the Jordan normal form of a square matrix, and we conclude with a look at Nakayama's lemma.
The class meets in room 416 of the Mathematics Building from 12noon-1pm on Thursdays and Fridays, as well as every second Wednesday (even weeks). Examples classes take place on Fridays 10-11am and 1-2pm, both in room 214-A.
