CONFERENCE ON OPERATOR ALGEBRAS AND APPLICATIONS

in honour of Professor Chris Lance

Second Announcement

 

This meeting will survey some of the recent progress in operator algebras and applications, and will celebrate the contributions and influence of Professor Christopher Lance in this area of mathematics.    The meeting is supported by the London Mathematical Society, the University of Leeds, and the University of Aberdeen.

 

 

Scientific Programme.

 

The meeting will start at 16.00  on Thursday 21 September and will finish by 13.00 on Saturday 23 September.  Tea and registration will take place in the School of Mathematics, in the foyer on Level 9, from 15.00-16.00 pm on Thursday 21st September. The lectures will take place in Lecture Theatre 8 of the Roger Stevens Building of the University of Leeds.   For maps, please see

Registration fee. The registration fee for the meeting is £20.  Please register by 11th September 2006  by sending an email to garth@maths.leeds.ac.uk , including your full name and address.  You may use the form given at the end of this announcement.    UK participants should send a UK cheque for £20 (probably combined with the cheque for the Conference Dinner – see below) to H. G. Dales,  Department of Pure Mathematics, University of Leeds, Leeds, LS2 9JT.  The cheque must be payable to “University of Leeds”.

Late registration or payment by non-UK participants may be made in cash at the registration session 15.00-16.00, on Thursday 21st September.

Conference dinner.

There will be a conference dinner in the evening of Friday 22 September at which Chris and Mary Lance will be the principal guests of honour.
The dinner will begin at 19.00, preceded by a reception at 18.30. The dinner will be held in the Great Woodhouse Room, University House.
This is on the campus of Leeds University, a few minutes' walk from the lecture theatre.

The charge will be £25, including wine. Guests at the dinner are welcome. To book for this dinner, please send a UK cheque for this amount to H.  G. Dales, Department of Pure Mathematics, University of Leeds, Leeds LS2 9JT; the cheque must be payable to   "University of Leeds".   Please ensure that it is clear for whom you are booking. If you wish to have a vegetarian meal at the dinner, please make this clear when booking the dinner. Bookings for the dinner should be made by 11th September 2006.

Financial support for research students enrolled at UK universities.
