The NINTH Edinburgh Mathematical Society meeting for Postgraduate Students will take place at The Burn (near Edzell) from Tuesday 16th to Thursday 18th May 2006. The meeting is open to all Postgraduate Students in Mathematics at the Scottish Universities. The number of spaces available at this fantastic event is strictly limited to 30, so make sure you book early (FINAL closing date 17th March (NOW 17th FEB!!!) ).   Applicants after this date will be taken on a first paid, first served basis, if any places are left.

The whole meeting is designed to allow you time to enjoy a range of talks in mathematics from pure to applied, and to socialize and exchange your experiences with other postgraduate students in mathematics across Scotland. There will be mathematical quizzes, a bar, walks and other exciting events.

The aim of the meeting is to provide an informal setting for students to meet others working in similar areas, and to present their work (short talks) to a friendly audience or to chair a set of talks.

The meeting fee will be £32 (subsidised by the EMS), which covers the cost of accommodation and meals at The Burn. You may be able to recover the registration fee plus any travel costs from your department. If there is sufficient demand we shall provide transport to The Burn from the local train station (Montrose station).

You can download the application form plus fact sheet here.

You can see details of previous meetings on the EMS website.

The Burn will be organised this year by Martin Bees (Glasgow) & Christina Cobbold (Glasgow)
