SCHEDULE
You should arrive at The Burn by 15:00 (3 pm) on Tuesday May 16th (in
time for afternoon tea).
We shall leave after lunch on Thursday 18th. Talks will be held on late
Tuesday afternoon (between tea and dinner) and Tuesday and Wednesday
mornings, with Wednesday afternoon being left free for you to spend as
you choose (the facilities available at The Burn are described below).
Evenings are reserved for light-hearted mathematical activities.
TRANSPORT
The Burn is situated 1.5 miles east of Edzell on the B966 road. If you
intend to arrange your own motor transport, then please note that it is
YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to check with your insurer that you are properly
insured, particularly if your travel expenses are being reimbursed by
your institution (some insurers may regard this visit as business
travel).
A minibus has been booked to take people between Montrose railway
station and The Burn on Tuesday (departing Montrose at TBA), and back
again on Thursday after lunch.
TALKS
Talks should last about 20 minutes each, with an extra few minutes
allowed for questions. An overhead projector and screen, and a data
projector (but no blackboard) will be provided.
RULES
The Burn has only two strict rules, breach of which may lead to an
offender being asked to leave. These are
(1) DO NOT BRING DRINK IN FROM OUTSIDE (the Burn has a bar).
(2) DO NOT TAKE DRINK UP TO BEDROOMS.
Please also read and abide by the `Customs of the House' which will be
given to you when you arrive.
FACILITIES
The house consists of a large drawing room, library, recreation and
games room, bar, and dining room; with bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs.
All food, bedding and towels are provided. It is situated in extensive
grounds on the banks of the River North Esk. Tennis, croquet and bowls
can be played in the grounds, and the nearest golf course is in Edzell,
1.5 miles away. It is well placed for hill walking (Mount Keen, a
Munro, is a short drive away), and bicycles may also be available.
Please note that you are responsible for your own safety during any
activity you take part in, and neither the EMS nor any of the
organisers will take responsibility for any accidents, losses or
injuries.
