I have taught several courses on representation theory of finite groups: one at Postech, which started at zero, and one at Warwick, running for several years, and covering some more advanced topics. The following set of lecture notes does not correspond exactly to either of these courses, but it starts at zero, and goes deeper than most first courses in character theory, so if you are learning character theory right now, you might find some use/inspiration in them.

The following exercise sheets were intended for the Warwick course.

• Exercise sheet 1 - revision of basic representation and character theory.
• Exercise sheet 2 - induced characters, Mackey's formula.
• Exercise sheet 3 - Tensor products, symmetric and alternating powers.
• Exercise sheet 4 - G-sets, permutation representations, monomial representations, induction theorem.
• Exercise sheet 5 - Schur indices, and also miscellaneous revision.
